The St. Helena USD special educators believe that all children with special needs will have access to the general education curriculum to the fullest extent possible. To accomplish this, the district provides a continuum of services and flexible programs which enable students with special needs to successfully learn in general education classrooms. Special educator’s help students understand their learning differences, use compensatory strategies, and advocate for their learning needs. A strong and effective partnership between general and special education teachers creates a learning environment that promotes the successful use of instructional strategies and techniques which will benefit all students.
Our special education services provide for the individual needs of the student including academic, social, physical and management needs. These are provided with the goal of serving the student in the least restrictive environment.
In St. Helena Unified School District, the first consideration is education of students with disabilities in general education in their home school. The District is also committed to providing a full continuum of services which support the unique educational needs of each student.
